In order to bridge the period until I finally have time to finish certain letters (which may take years) I decided to upload temporary versions of all chapters in the near futures. These chapters will not have any pictures, there will be incomplete and unfinished entries and some entries may be missing at all. Never mind that, I believe this temporary fix will give you as a reader a better and more complete picture (what with the cross references and all). Watch these pages for more updates soon to come. Hope you all had a good summer. Here's a fine start for the autumn: the K chapter. This time I tried something new: I collected all of the pictures at the end of the book (after the index). Just an experiment, might make it easier for me to do updates in the future.

Nearly 100 pages of text, and about 115 pages with pictures in addition. Because of the size of the file with pictures I decided to do a text only version as well. Roughly 265 entries in both, something like 465 reviews and in the picture edition you will find around 1.000 (cover) pictures.

The newest chapter is online. Despite the fact that the singer of Hungarian proggers You And I graces the cover, it is very much a celebration of one of the best progressive rock groups of all times: Yes, with many, many pictures of their releases. But then... You And I of course took their name from Yes as well!

Nearly 100 pages, about 80 entries, over 100 reviews and around 500 pictures. And it's a biggie: 34 MB. Get it here, or by clicking the picture!

And then there were three... At least Chapters for the letter M. Number four (the appendix) is coming within a few weeks.

Plenty of goodies again... 25 MB download (sorry in case your connection is slow), but 116 pages, 285 entries, 190+ reviews and something like 500 pictures. No text only version this time.

Second "M" chapter has been uploaded

This one went qicker than expected. Probably due to the fact that it doesn't feature as many big names and the number of pictures is kept within a very reasonable range. Everything between MB and MN is found here... 285 entries, 300 pics and something like 165 reviews. 18 MB in total for download. Haven't done a text only this time!

The first M Chapter is out!

It took me a while, but I expect it's worth it - the first M-Chapter covering everything starting simply with "M", or Ma".

I've made two different versions this time. The regular version is 216 pages, contains around 370 entries, 350 reviews and about 1.000 pictures. The downside: the file is nearly 59 MB large...

Having finished the regular version, I figured that I might have overdone things a bit in the picture department (among other things due to an extensive Marillion collection). So I created also an alternative. Contents is the same, but without pictures. Only 98 pagens and about 1 MB to download (but without the visual fun).

Ladies and gentlemen, we proudly present...

The I-Chapter. Everything you always wanted to know from I to IZZ. Well, actually not everything because I came across a bunch of additional pictures and material today, but decided to keep this for a second edition and instead work in order to get another chapter out in a month or so...

Meanwhile, you can download the I-chapter. The statistics: 20 MB, 112 pages, over 500 cover pictures (the main reason for the size of the file...), 275 entries and 180 reviews. And as usual: full contents and artist index.

Background Magazine - some old issues

Last weekend I've been organizing some old (and not quite so old) harddiscs and came across a load of Background Magazine files, partly scans of really old issues in the making, mostly however pdf pages.

I've assembled the pages that belonged together in the respective files respresenting a complete or partly complete issue which are now available for download.

Please be aware that the quality of the files may differ. Some are based on scans (and thus not searchable), some are in screen quality (and thus in a comfortable file size), some are high/press quality files (and thus enormously big).

Leafing through the material was quite fun and a satisfying experience too. I've been involved in pretty much all of the issues I uploaded now - first as writer/reviewe, later as main editor or editor. Some really good stuff there. Most of it ends also up in the book eventually in one way or another (compare for example the Anyone's Daughter story with the entry in the book!). But there are also many great things you will find only here. Like Maurice's great layout from BM 84 onwards (he was definitely better at it than I was), the Prog In Russia series by Dave McConnell (also presented as a seperate file), and obviously the coolest special ever: Prog & Sex. Check issue 81 for that one!

I'm happy to announce that the last part of the A-chapter now has been uploaded.

The A-appendix (7 MB) contains 92 pages, about 660 entries, 180 cover pictures and 110 reviews. As is explained in the introduction: you will find here related acts with a lesser level of detail, and also some not-quite-so-related things by way of warning you... Click on the picture for download.

As for the future of File Under Jurassic Prog... Feedback has been sparse (please let me hear your thoughts!), but quite encouraging. Meanwhile I'm upgrading the other chapters so they can be published one day. Focus is on the I, J and M chapters right now, but you might be able to change my mind...

Also I discovered some extremely stupid typos on the previous chapters, so I replaced the links in the previous posting with new ones (for those who printed the documents - as intended by the author - the only changes are on front and back cover and the title page).

Proudly Introducing: The A-Files

I'm proud to announce the first four parts of File Under Jurasic Rock that just have been published. Everything is downloadable from this blog or via the website.

The book is entirely free as I figured that a properly printed version would be to expensive to produce (for now at least). Feel free to print it yourself (which is recommended, I don't like reading book on the computer myself) and enjoy!

Any kind of feedback is highly appreciated. Really: any. Send an e-mail to the editor directly, leave a note on the blog or write something in the guestbook on the website. Any feedback is appreciated: what did you like, what not and what is missing or can be improved.

And most importantly: help me decide how to continue the project - shall I put out the other chapters as soon as possible (but incomplete) and improve over time, or shall we do it thoroughly but slowly with one chapter a time, but with a level of detail like the ones you're about to download...

And of course: feel free to contribute. Missing information, pictures or (for bands and labels)material to listen and write.

I'm in the final stages of finishing the A-files for "File Under Jurassic Rock", but have used a little time to recreate the 1998 file from "File Under Symfo" and convert it to pdf.

The file is not perfect yet (page size, some hick-ups with pictures going to the next page and the indexing - thanks to problems between the different Word versions '97 and '03) but I will try to improve this as soon as I'm done with 'the A-files'.

For now, I hope you enjoy the old work and will look forward to the things that are coming soon!

Shortly after I will also make "File Under Symfo" available for download. I managed to recover the 1998 book from an ancient zip-drive and will convert it a.s.a.p.
